SUMMARY
Melbourne coach Dean Bailey was bitterly disappointed with his side's lacklustre performance last Friday night against Carlton, and says redemption for that will be a motivating factor when the Demons face Essendon on Friday night.

The Demons had 38 inside 50s against the Blues but only managed a return of six goals for the match, and they will need to work on their delivery going forward this week if they want to have any chance of beating the Bombers.

Injuries have also played a major part in Melbourne's past three losses but the return of midfielder Jack Trengove from suspension and possibly Tom Scully could be a welcome boost.

Key position player Tom McDonald has also been solid in defence for Casey in the VFL, and could be called upon this week to help out against the Bombers' tall timber.

James Hird's men should be well rested after last week's bye and it will be interesting to see if they're raring to go.

While a week's rest would have been invaluable to skipper Jobe Watson's recovery from a hamstring injury, most teams this season have failed to fire after the bye.

Just four sides (St Kilda, West Coast, Hawthorn and Geelong) this year have gone on to win the week after a bye and the Saints and Eagles both played sides who were also coming off a week's rest.
